Understand what you are installing
A prompt is text; a skill may bundle scripts, dependencies, and external connections. Read the instructions and supporting files before granting access. A popular repository can still contain functionality that does not fit your needs.
Follow the source
Find the original repository and the actual licence for the component you intend to use. A directory may link to projects under different terms. Check maintenance, issues, supported environments, and installation instructions at the source.
Start with a small task
Try a single workflow in an isolated project with non-sensitive input. Observe the files it reads or changes, commands it runs, and permissions it requests. Do not mistake a successful install for a successful task.
Keep evidence of your choice
Record the version, task, expected outcome, and result. Stars can help you discover candidates, but your own task-specific evaluation should decide which one you keep.
